One of the most important events in the Sycamore Trust UK calendar took place on Wednesday with our annual SWAP Walk & Talk. It’s a big part of our activities for Autism Acceptance Week and the third year that we have walked from the Havering Autism Hub in Romford to our premises in Dagenham and back again.
This year, 17 participants and one very excited dog set out from Romford just after 10am on Wednesday. We’d been watching the weather forecast all week and we seemed to have had a bit of luck as it was bright and cool as our group set off on the first leg of their journey. They made good time, reaching Dagenham just after mid-day for a brief comfort break and some light refreshments, before starting out on the return leg.
There was a brief shower during the return journey, but not enough to dampen the spirits, although it was a very tired group that arrived back in Romford just after 2.30pm. Regardless of aching limbs, they raised a wonderful £1,500 and you can still donate, by clicking here and following the links; https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/daretodedifferentwalk2024
It is all part of our drive to raise awareness and acceptance of Autism during Autism Acceptance Week, with our Dare to be Different day taking place on Thursday 28th March this year. Thank you to everyone who took part and to everyone who made a donation.
