Travelling to train the travel trainers!

The Sycamore Trust Autism Ambassadors made the journey to Chelmsford last week to meet a staff team from Essex County Council.

More often than not, our training is delivered to people with little or no understanding of autism, but this certainly was not the case last week as we went to meet the Travel Training team from the council's Integrated Passenger Transport Unit, so we had to be at our best to deliver the CPD- accredited training to people with a level of experience in supporting the neuro-diverse community.

Fortunately, our team were in top form, and the two hour presentation was a great success, with lots of engagement from the participants, who were also especially interested to hear about our trainers personal lived experience of life on the spectrum.

The feedback was very positive, and reflected the level of interest from everyone present.  Here are some of the comments we received;

  • Although I have worked with autistic people for many years, it was really helpful to have the training delivered by people on the spectrum
  • It was great to have autistic people lead the training - it's so useful to hear of their own experiences
  • So pleased with the whole training - highlighted a lot of areas that I need to take into consideration

Huge thanks to Donna & Cara and the Essex Travel Training Team - we look forward to another visit in the future!
