We had hoped to make it all the way to the end of the week at Lambourne End without a soaking, but the long-awaited rain finally arrived in the south east of the UK on Thursday morning.
Our young people were undeterred and tackled the morning's activities with typical enthusiasm. At some point on Monday, everyone was dangling from a rope in mid air (attached to a harness, obviously!) as we all had a go on the zip-wires. There are two zip-wires at Lambourne, and after trying the shorter route, our young people graduated to the longer version in double quick time. It was absolutely great fun, especially the longer wire, which is around 400m long!
At the same time, we had a group attempting to master a brilliant ropes course, which zig-zagged back and forth across a rather unpleasant looking stream. Even though it was raining heavily, no-one seemed terribly keen to go into the water and we managed to get through the ropes without anyone going into the water. We were all soaked at the end in any case!
Over at the pool however, it was the ideal weather for kayaking although many of our young people just ended up in the water, regardless of whether or not they actually started out in a kayak.
After liunch, it was time to take a look around the farm. Of course, by now, given the British weather, it was bright sunshine! We met cows, some pigs, rabbits, guinea pigs, several different varieties of goat and interestingly, a chicken that thinks it's a duck. No, honestly! All in all, a very busy and rather exhausting day. Four down, one to go - roll on Friday!
