Our friends and supporters are always coming up with innovative ways to raise money for Sycamore Trust and one young man from Havering is set to dip his toes in the water in a couple of weeks in a bid to support our charity.
Ollie Curtin from Upminster will attempt to complete the Swim Serpentine event in Hyde Park on 17th September and he's already raised hundreds of pounds! Although Ollie is a regular swimmer, this is a challenging event, a full two mile open water swim around the lake in Hyde Park.
Ollie swims three times a week but this is his first open water swim and he's doing it to raise money for Sycamore. The 21 year old was diagnosed with ASD in 2020 and both he and his mum are well known to our Family Services team. Ollie said; "I chose Sycamore Trust because they have helped me on numerous occasions so much and I have seen the amazing work they do to help people on the spectrum."
Whilst he is a regular swimmer, this is a new target for Ollie. He said; "I swim 3 times a week and have completed 2 Swimathons for charity, the most recent of which being 2.5 km in May of this year. This will be my first time attempting an open water swimming event and if I am successful, my first time ever swimming 2 miles in one go."
Ollie hasn't set any fund raising targets, but he's already generated over £400 for the cause, which is a wonderful total. If you would like to help Ollie, please visit his fund raising page; https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ollies-swim-serpentine
