Sam Hawkes will be keeping it in the family when he takes on the Battersea Park half marathon next month. Not only is Sam running the 21k distance to raise money for Sycamore Trust UK, he's also doing it to show support for his sister Evie, who is a member of our girls group.
The Battersea Park half marathon takes place on 27th July and Sam is hoping to complete the thirteen miles in around an hour and three-quarters, whilst raising as much as he can.
He said; "In 2020 my youngest sister Evie was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and this has become a part of our everyday life. Evie joined a girls club run by the Sycamore Trust, for autistic girls which she has attended every Saturday for the last year. The club has done so much to support Evie and she has even been awarded a Jack Petchey Award for her outstanding efforts on the outdoor activity week last August. The Sycamore Trust has given my little sister a place where she can speak to girls who face similar challenges as her, allowing her to make friends and just be herself outside of our house. The Sycamore Trust is a fantastic charity who support my sister and parents, along with many other families in Havering"
