This week, we held our second set of summer activities for youth group members and reversed the schedule from two weeks ago. On Monday 12 August, two girls joined us for a round of Moby Golf and on Tuesday 13 August eight boys joined us for a tour of Wellgate Community Farm followed by a game of ten pin bowling at the City Pavilion.
The weather on Monday was even hotter than the day the boys joined us at Moby Golf, but the girls were not deterred, and we had a lot of fun. We did take advantage of some shade when we reached the model whale and took a selfie for good measure. It was ice cream or cold drinks all round when we got back to the clubhouse to cool off.
On Tuesday the boys enjoyed meeting the animals during a late-morning stroll around the farm before heading over to City Pavilion for lunch, arcade games and ten pin bowling. There was some impressive scoring in the bowling alley, and we got a great group photo under the neon lights. As we headed for the collection point the boys told us that they had enjoyed the whole day, but that bowling was the highlight for them.
The invitations to these community activities go to the members of every youth group we run, so they are the perfect way for young people to meet members of other groups for the first time. So, the highlight for us is seeing the young people develop new friendships while they chat, smile and laugh together.
The Jack Petchey Foundation awards scheme funded these activities, so a big thank you to them, and the thirteen young people who joined us over the four days. We are planning some more fun for the autumn, so there will be new opportunities coming the way of all youth group members soon.
