It may be weeks away but the countdown to Dare to be Different 2020 is most definitely under way. World Autism Awareness Week takes place from 30th March to 5th April next year and we're already making plans! In April 2019 we enjoyed our first Dare to be Different day, aimed at promoting awareness of not only Autism, but also all of the good work that we do for the local community in Barking & Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge. We were able to raise a few quid as well!
It's very much a case of 'same again' for 2020 as we will once again be encouraging people to dress up in something unusual to promote awareness of Autism, which affects over 700,000 individuals in the UK alone. The central theme of Dare to be Different is that being autistic isn't strange or wrong, it's just a different version of what we are used to. By doing this, we’re hoping that people will understand Autism Spectrum Disorder a bit more and maybe be more sympathetic towards people who are a bit different to the conventional idea of normal. Please join in and spread the word to friends and family, schools and businesses!
We've now got a registration page live on our website, so please click here http://www.sycamoretrust.org.uk/get-involved/dare-to-be-different and leave us some details so we can get in touch. Dare to be Different day is going to be 3rd April 2020, which is the last Friday before the schools break up for Easter, but if it suits you to organise your activity on a different date, that's fine with us too!
April 2019 was great fun - here are some images of some very creative outfits!
