A walk in the park!

We picked a fabulous day for our fourth annual #daretobedifferent sponsored walk and there's no doubt that the weather has played a part in another very successful occasion.

Instead of walking from Romford to Dagenham and back, we decided to concentrate our activities on beautiful Raphael Park, which looked spectacular in the spring sunshine.  A very good crowd of around two dozen walkers (and one dog!)  assembled at the main gate and headed off just after 10am and completed several laps of the park before finishing just after 2pm.

It's all part of of our extremely busy #autismacceptance week and it's shaping up to be a terrific week in terms of fundraising and also promoting empathy and understanding of autism, as well as raising awareness of the vital work we do at Sycamore Trust to support the autistic communities in Havering, Redbridge and Barking & Dagenham.

The annual sponsored walk was organised by Ann-Marie Lyons-Mummery.  She was delighted with the number of people who came out to support us. She said;

‘It was a lovely sunny day in a new venue with wonderful scenery. We had a great turnout, having the most walkers than ever before (we even had our own cheerleaders thanks to the children of Fledglings nursey)! We exceeded our expectations with the money that was raised and which we are extremely grateful for. We walked and talked with people who have previously attended our walks and it was amazing to meet some new people too. For me the most important part of the walk was an elderly lady approaching me asking what we were doing. We spoke about the Sycamore Trust, who we are and what we do. We walked and talked for quite a while and she began to tell me that she was once a teacher and wished she had known about autism back then so that she could of supported some of her pupils better. This to me is autism awareness at its finest.'

We're very close to a magnificent £2,000 from the walkand a couple more donations should see us past that fabulous total - if you'd like to help us over the line with a donation - large or small - go to; https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/sycamorewalk2025
