Bourne again!

Outdoor week scheduled for August

We’re delighted to announce that we will be heading back to Lambourne for our outdoor activity week this summer! We went to Lambourne for the very first time last summer and we absolutely loved it and we will return this year, for the week commencing 21st August.

It goes without saying that we were thrilled to have good weather throughout our week in 2022, but our visit was a huge success thanks to the attitude and endeavour of our young people and the staff that approached all the tasks with enthusiasm. It was our first visit to the farm, and we enjoyed the change in environment, as well as a few different activities. Hard to say what last year's highlight was, although there would no doubt be a lot of votes for the rocket building, which was an unexpected surprise, and the mountain biking, which was a first for us. On reflection, it was probably the zip-wire, which everyone loved. Especially the longer version, which is almost a quarter of a mile long!

There were still plenty of familiar activities, such as archery and the ropes course, and we also got the chance to look around the farm and meet some of the animal residents, including a hundred-year-old tortoise! All in all, we can’t wait to go back, and our week this summer is going to be a week like no other, because not only are we returning to Lambourne, but we have also been able to add in a day of water activities at the Fairlop Waters Outdoor Centre.

We know how much our young people have enjoyed water activities in the past and much as we enjoyed the swimming pool sessions in the sunshine at Lambourne last August, we felt that a day of sailing activities would be a welcome addition to the Sycamore calendar. We are therefore delighted to say that we will be going to Fairlop Waters on Wednesday 23rd August as part of our outdoor activity week.

As ever, the outdoor week is only available to Sycamore Trust UK members aged 10 - 21 with a current risk assessment. Anyone wishing to join the membership can do so, but please note that we will need to complete a risk assessment on new members so we will need plenty of notice.

Drop us a line at marketing@sycamoretrust.org.uk  to indicate if you have a young person who would like to attend and please indicate if you wish to send them for the whole week or for selected days. This is a first come – first served offer and places are limited, so please let us know as soon as you can. We are now open for bookings, and families can book for all five days or any combination they desire, although there is a limit to the number of children that we can accommodate, so we’d always recommend booking up quickly. Siblings are welcome as well, as long as we have room.

Last year, we decided against providing lunch and it worked really well, so this year we will once again ask all our participants to bring a packed lunch, although we will provide fruit and snacks.. Parents and carers should also note that public transport to Lambourne is limited, so it will almost certainly involve dropping off and collection the young people by car.
